Could somebody please help me!!

question is: You have added 5mg of a drug to an infusion, making 50mls in total. How many mcgs per ml are there?

I am told that answer is 250/125=2

I cannot work out how they have arrived at this answer. Confused

I really would appreciate the help.

Thank you Lynn

Hi Lynn

1mg = 1000mcg
5mg = 5000mcg
50mls contains 5000mcg
Divide by 50 to give microgrammes per ml
5000mcg/50 = 100mcg
50ml/50 = 1ml
1ml contains 100mcg

A useful equation is
(What you want/what you have)xVolume it's in
N.B "What you want" and "What you have" need to be matching measurements i.e. both mg or both mcg.

i.e.using the information above if you wanted to give 100mcg per hour
(100mcg/5000mcg)x50ml = 0.02 x 50 = 1ml per hour

I hope this has helped?
