Summary:

Job Title: School Pilot nurse

Timings:
o 1 day in early September
o 3-4 days in late September/early October

Location: Birmingham / Solihull area

Pay: Competitive rate

Background

We are currently working with a well - known feminine hygiene brand to create a Key Stage 2 PSHE (Personal Social Health Education) resource educating young girls on menstruation, puberty and the changes they can expect to their bodies.

Our aim is to run a pilot of this programme in late September/early October, where the content which is traditionally delivered through the class teacher, will instead be delivered through a trained nurse.

A nurse (trained by us) will go into 3 schools and deliver a one-off session to 10-11 year old pupils. The nurse will run the sessions directly; seeking to educate pupils in the area of puberty and menstruation to familiarise them with the changes they will soon experience (or have already started experiencing).

Personal profile & requirements

Ideally we are looking for a newly qualified nurse (a qualified nurse with 2-3 years experience) however student nurses would also be considered. Nurse should be CRB approved.

The chosen candidate will be introduced as a professional in this area, educating girls on the topics at hand. You must be friendly and approachable to ensure a trusting and comfortable environment is achieved which will allow open discussion to take place. You should be easy going, and enthusiastic, and be able to openly speak about puberty in a light hearted way. We are seeking to run these sessions in a tone that is educational, yet relaxed, fun, interactive, engaging and positive.

Any experience with children/ or within the school environment would be preferable. You must feel comfortable in school surroundings, and have an authoritative manner in order to run the session with the pupils. Support materials will be provided and a general understanding of PowerPoint is desirable.
