Hi, my father worked for the NHS and specialist care homes from 1956, retiring in the late 80's due to ill health, brought on I suspect by the long hours he worked for so many years.
Still in poor health, but until recently, was living a happy retirement in Brighton, in some cottages funded by a charitable trust managed by the RCN. These cottages are now under threat, and the retired nurses face the prospect of loosing their homes. I have created a website to help raise awareness of the situation: http://www.savejohnhowardcottages.org/ Please take a few minutes to visit the site. The retired nurses plight was recently featured on the BBC's 'Inside Out' , but the RCN refused the invitation to appear on the programme If you are a member of the RCN, then you help by asking questions at Congress: http://www.rcn.org.uk/newsevents/news/article/uk/ask_the_secretary_of_state_for_health_a_question_at_congress! Thank you in advance for your support. Kelvin |

What a surprise to see my father in this weeks Nusing Satndard.
http://dialspace.dial.pipex.com/town/terrace/hu41/savejohnhowardcottages/magazinearticle.pdf A good article, but does not quite convey the anguish that has been caused by the threat of the retired nurse loosing there homes. My father was this last weekend addmitted to the local hospital, quite seriously ill now. My thanks to the staff at Brighton currently caring for him. continued support is apprecaited. http://www.savejohnhowardcottages.org/ |
